23. Likewise, the Uptown Bar was one of the focal points of the metro area’s developing rock scene in the ’70s and ’80s. Bands like the Replacements and Soul Asylum regularly played warm-up gigs at the bar before heading out on tour. The Uptown was demolished in 2009 after its owners sold it to a development company. It is now an Apple store.

It’s 2011 and people want to make dating this big complicated game with too many rules that change based upon how far along in the game you are (how old you are) and what color your piece is (if you’re a guy or a girl), but seriously, it can be just as simple as it was on the first roll (when you were a kid).
I promise you what I am about to say is the truth.
It really is as simple as passing a note: “I like you. Do you like me? Check Yes or No.”
It still works. Probably better than it ever did when you were a kid. It is glorious. I promise.

Ryan DeRoche, my friend and colleague, was badly injured in a mountain bike crash in Spain in March. He wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. He was simply commuting home from work, riding his mountain bike along a footpath near the city of Girona. His front wheel got hung up on a rock or root, and he went over the handlebars. His neck hit the ground first, and he shattered his C4 vertebra. He is now in a rehab facility in Boston, Massachusetts, working toward someday walking again.
In a way, Ryan was very lucky. He didn’t hit his head in the crash, and when he was found, he was able to tell the person who found him who to call and how to get in contact with his friends in Spain. Not everyone who experiences an incident, whether in training, commuting, or just out for a spin or run around the neighborhood, is so lucky. If you have an accident and aren’t able to speak for yourself, who will?
During the 2011 Tour de France, I am donating all of proceeds from my affiliate program with Road ID to Ryan’s recovery. To protect yourself, a friend, or a loved one, and support my friend Ryan, purchase a Road ID through this link.http://bit.ly/ryanroad
The Road ID website doesn’t look any different when you click through that link, but there is a referrer tag built into the link that will assure that your purchase gets credited to my account and passed on to Ryan’s recovery.
For additional information on Ryan, check out the blog I wrote shortly after his accident:

As well as this article in his local newspaper:

Cool. I’ll keep an eye on your Tumblr. I’m in Denver for the Urban Assault Ride on the 24th.

Some days it’s just hard not to get discouraged.
How many emails and texts can one share with exes in one day? I mean, really, interaction with four exes in the same day? I wish I had some whisky around.

Thanks to everyone who came up with answers for “What are some free/cheap things to do in the Twin Cities?”. All the replies were terrific, my man Ed Kohler used the word “wad” in his submission, and even WCCO”S Jason DeRusha chimed in with some great ideas (He left out the word “wad” though)….
Home. I can’t wait to visit home.
My boys finally released a proper EP. These guys kill it. Can’t wait to go see them when I get home.
PS. Free show tonight at Blarney’s in Dinkytown from 10-2.
PPS. You can buy the EP on Amazon and iTunes for playing on the bike, in your car or where ever else you listen to your music playing device.
Happened upon these guys last night. They were playing 93898 Beatles covers… in a row… but their own music is quite nice. They weren’t bad to look at either.
Simple Request: If you don’t want to be part of my life, please stay out of my dreams.
